I seem to recall that the environmental policy agreed with original miner was that they would monitor pollution in the river. Reports not made public or even verified by PNG's Environment Division or Department.

Also that there would be an initial so called 'mixing zone' of quite a long length of the river which would not be subject to testing.

When you think this river runs into Strickland which runs into Fly River via Lake Murray it all adds filth to the muck from Ok Tedi already polluting the Fly.

Across the border in West Papua the world's largest gold mine the Grasberg Mine has been pouring its filth into ITS river for 46 years at an estimated 700,000 tonnes of tailing daily on its way to the Arafura Sea.
