« Don’t talk about ICAC, Peter, just front up to the courts | Main | »

I’m concerned about the thrust of an article in Loop PNG yesterday which gave PM Peter O’Neill’s response to the court decision to refuse his appeal, that is, the police commissioner should now this week arrest the prime minister.

The prime minister’s response was that this is politics pure and simple. It is most assuredly not politics pure and simple, it’s based on Peter O’Neill’s claim that the document granting payment to Paul Paraka and his wives is a forgery.

Experts gave evidence in court after examining the document and discovered it was not a forgery but signed by the PM. All this has been laid out in Jason Sharman’s excellent book ‘A Despot’s Guide to Wealth Management’ (fantastic title!).

In the Loop PNG article, O’Neill also says he is providing protection for all future prime ministers by defying the court’s decision. A convenient excuse and pure unadulterated rubbish.

I’m guessing most of the PNG population is unaware of the details of this case and that the Paraka document is a forgery. I doubt the Post Courier or The National will provide good coverage.
