The bulk of the team is made up of players from the Central Province, and even family members.

Cricket is not played in many parts of PNG. But imagine the talent that's out there not only in cricket but also in other sports.

The current Pacific Games also show that the medals only come from athletes and players who are mostly based in Port Moresby, some main centres, overseas and maybe Lae.

There is still an untapped pool of talents in the vrious sports in the provinces waiting to be discovered.

The bi-annual PNG Games is a good step in identifying talents but sports management and administration needs to be taken back to the provinces.

Provincial governments should not only wake up to support provincial teams for the PNG Games but sustain their support in ways that really bring out the best in our athletes.

Sports must be better supported and managed along corporate principles and lines.

I played cricket for Colts in Moresby back in the early 1980s. Cricket has gone ahead in leaps and bounds in recent years which is great to see.

Hopefully qualification for the T20 World Cup will be attained and we can get to see PNG take on the world's best.

Go PNG. Cricket PNG is the only sport that is doing fine and exceeding expectations.
