INDONESIA has offered 12 non-degree Darmasiswa scholarships to Papua New Guinea but only one female student is among them.
Education and cultural attaché, Dr Sedercor Melatunan, said only one female was qualified for the program. He did not provide other details.
“I hope that for next academic year more female participants from PNG will apply for the scholarship,” he said.
The 2015-16 non-degree program will see the PNG students joining another 388 Darmasiswa recipients from over 40 countries.
Dr Melatunan said the students will study in several state universities for a year in the disciplines of Indonesian language, social sciences, information technology and computer sciences.
“The 12 Papua New Guineans will be hosted by eight universities in Indonesia,” he said.
“All the Darmasiswa recipients are expected to be in Jakarta no later than 28 August.”
