THE head of Papua New Guinea's anti-corruption unit, Taskforce Sweep, has filed contempt proceedings against the head of the finance department.
Sam Koim claims that his unit is yet to receive any funding from this year and has filed proceedings in the National Court. Taskforce Sweep was disbanded by the Prime Minister, Peter O'Neill in June, before being reinstated - with full funding - by order of the National Court.
However, Mr Koim's lawyer told local media that the acting secretary of the Finance department, Dr Ken Ngangan, has prevented the unit from accessing its funds for the year. In a statement on his Facebook page, Sam Koim says the unit is operating by using funds remaining from last year.
Justice Colin Makail ordered the parties involved to appear in the National Court later in August.
