THE Buk bilong Pikinini organisation will run a three-day program in Port Moresby next month to promote and support writing and the illustration of children’s books and stories in Papua New Guinea.
And writers who contribute to PNG Attitude and The Crocodile Prize are invited to attend.
“Children all over the world grow up learning from local stories and tales, which have been told for generations,” said organiser Anne-Sophie Hermann.
“Buk bilong Pikinini would like to ensure that such stories are available on our library shelves for all children to enjoy.”
The program includes information on writing opportunities with Buk bilong Pikinini and discussions with literary figures Alison Lester, Andrew Kelly, Drusilla Modjeska, Hilary McPhee, Russell Soaba, Russell Jackson and Steven Winduo.
Sessions will be held on understanding audiences, developing ideas, illustrating children’s books, learning through story and publishing.
