This photo of the Flame of the Forest was taken back in the early 1970s on the side of the Maprik road as it climbs up from the narrow coastal plain where Wewak is situated. The rainforest in that area was tall and thick and overgrown with creepers and this display was really stunning. It was on a tight bend and I just had to stop and take a photo and fortunately no other vehicle appeared!
