Hi Barbara Short, I believe we are related!

I'm from the side that went to Chertsey then Mersea Island. We are lucky to have records and history to go with our family tree.

So sad for poor Elspeth and all those who suffered and still suffer because of superstitions.

Lyn (distant cousin?)

I was a Neasmith before I married and I found that in 1679 Elspeth Naesmith, one of my distant cousins, from Hamilton, south of Glasgow, in Scotland, was denounced as a witch and burned alive.

She evidently read her Bible with two pairs of glasses and had three black cats!

It's a grim reminder of ALL our present....
