ADAM EVERILL SAYS ABOUT HALF OF THE WOMEN in Papua New Guinea will experience some sort of sexual abuse in their life.
This startling statistic has motivated the musician, concert promoter and former rugby league coach to visit PNG to take what he hopes will be an effective method of reducing violence against women.
PNG loves rugby league, and the male-dominated sport is where he'll focus his attention, providing financial and material contributions to clubs on the provision they sign a code of conduct.
"We've borrowed a successful program run here in New South Wales and in Queensland and modified them slightly - [as well as signing the code] they have to go to workshops and be part of a local awareness campaign," he said.
"We want to use players in the materials we use in the workshops and school work, and we want to do a national awareness campaign too.
"The two main newspapers there are quite sympathetic to the anti-violence cause."
Adam is spending three weeks in Papua New Guinea.
