A WARM WELCOME AT A FROSTY TIME OF YEAR has been extended to 73 ExxonMobil trainees from Papua New Guinea who arrived in Canada as part of a 12-month skills training program.
Engagement with LearnCorp International (LCI) began 18 months ago with training in Port Moresby and last week’s arrival marks phase two of the PNG LNG training program.
The students, mostly in their mid-twenties, were selected from almost 8,000 applicants and while in Canada will receive training in four disciplines.
The training, with emphasis on liquefied natural gas, will include class time and hands-on activity using labs and training facilities at Cape Breton University and Nova Scotia Community College.
“Our 10 year relationship with ExxonMobil continues to thrive and this recent project is another example of a focused and productive partnership,” said Ross McCurdy, President, LearnCorp International.
“While a terrific opportunity for LCI, this project also poses a significant opportunity for Papua New Guinea’s economic future and we are pleased to be part of that evolution.”
The graduates of the program will receive additional training at LNG facilities upon their return to PNG next year. They will form an important part of the national work force in the largest new-build energy infrastructure in the world.
