When you read articles and comments on PNG Attitude it takes a while to realise that most of them are coming from a Westernised viewpoint. Most criticism is couched in economic, and specifically capitalist, terms.

You can argue all day with some of the more ardent critics about the power of the mighty dollar and its influence. For many people the dollar is the be-all and end-all of life.

Martyn has brought a refreshing take on the issue and posits an alternative that is rooted in thousands of years of tradition.

He is almost a lone voice. The only other person I know of with similar views is Ralph Regenvanu in Vanuatu.

Sometimes you see posturing about the Melanesian Way from politicians like Barney Banana in Fiji but you know that is all about the manipulation of people. Why else would he get so much support from people like Michael Somare, who is a dab hand at cornering economic largesse, particularly from Asia.

I hope Martyn's power and voice spreads as far as possible. It is gratifying to see that PNG Attitude has helped broaden his platform.

If you are a politician reading this blog, either from PNG or Oz, I suggest you take special note and maybe read it again, only this time slower.
