Former teacher elected PNGAA president
Port Moresby: Friday 2 May, 2008
The Papua New Guinea Association of Australia (PNGAA) has elected former PNG teacher and NBC executive Keith Jackson as its new president.
Mr Jackson taught in Simbu from 1963-66, worked with the ABC and the department of Information, managed Radio Bougainville from 1970-73 and finally was the NBC’s first head of policy and planning.
“I feel strongly that the association should be active in strengthening relationships between the people of Australia and Papua New Guinea,” Mr Jackson told the PNGAA annual general meeting.
He was awarded the PNG Independence Medal in 1976 and the Order of Australia (AM) in 2004.

Congratulations on being elected President. I shall now refer to you as El Presidente. It has a better ring than Bigpela Bigpela Masta (?) I’m sure you’ll bring lots of energy to the role and they’re lucky to get you. Let’s have a jar to celebrate before too long.

Just back from PNG last night. Congratulations on your election as President of the PNGAA. I have been a member for years and look forward to your expansive innovations.
We were not able to email anything out of Rabaul, nor whilst on board the ship. I will prepare something to send you in the next week or so about our cruise and some of the other contacts we made.
